About Me

melbourne counsellor marg ryanI undertook intensive training in Somatic Psychotherapy at the Australian College of Somatic Psychotherapy to become a therapist. I found the academic rigor of the course, the experiential teaching methods and the requirement to be in your own therapy a rich and challenging learning opportunity. The course changed me professionally and personally on many levels and I still experience the ongoing benefits of my experience within my life today.

My qualifications are Bachelor of Arts, Diploma of Education, Masters of Organisational Psychology and Clinical Diploma of Somatic Psychotherapy. I have also completed a specialist course in couple therapy at Relationships Australia.

I chose to study Somatic Psychotherapy because the more I understood, the more excited I became,  it resonated so strongly with my own life experience.  It was particuarly powerful because it was a holistic philosophy.  Soma is a greek word meaning “the living body” and Somatic Psychotherapy believes that thought, emotion and bodily experience are inter connected aspects of a person’s bodymind.

My private practise is located in South Caulfield and I work with both individuals and couples in this location. My life experience includes being married with two teenage  daughters, as well as juggling a career spanning 24 years, that has always involved working with people.  Previously I worked in the corporate sector in Human Resources, in both training and recruitment and for the past 8 years I have been training and working in the psychotherapeutic community. I am passionate about encouraging, inspiring and educating others to fulfill their potential, so if you would like to get started or have an informal chat please contact me.
